Downham
Downham has recently received the Highly Commended award for its unspoilt appearance and charm. Downham captures the essence of rural Britain, yet remains a relatively secret gem. The village is owned by Lord Clitheroe who is able to exert his control over developments that may spoil its appearance. However, currently there are no road markings on the streets, the houses and cottages are stone-built, and there are no overhead cables, TV ariels or satellite dishes to spoil the view.
