Chipping

Chipping is a picturesque Lancashire village situated on the edge of The Trough Of Bowland. It is over 1000 years old and has won a number of best kept village competitions in recent years. During the Industrial Revolution Chipping thrived and had seven mills located along Chipping Brook. Only one of these factories is still in existance. This is the famous chairmaking factory of H.J.Berry where furniture has been designed and made since the 1890’s.

The Trough Of Bowland consits of rolling pastures, working farmland and dense forestry. The area occupies a great deal of the north east of Lancashire and is classed as “an area of outstanding natural beauty.” It consists of barren gritstone fells, deep valleys and peat moorland. Many find that it is an attractive alternative to the Lake District. There are over 3260 acres of open country for walkers and cyclists to use.
